Welcome to BT Vision
Imagine TV that's always showing the programmes you love to watch, at the times you want to watch them. Imagine live TV that you can pause when you need to boil the kettle or answer the door, and videos that you can download on demand. You don't have to imagine it: it's already here. It's called BT Vision and it's being described as the future of TV – although, luckily for BT Vision customers, that future has already arrived.
What is BT Vision?
Pause and rewind, and store 80 hours of your favourite shows - all at the touch of a button.
BT Vision launched in December 2006, providing thousands of UK customers with a over 35 freeview digital TV channels and 20 radio channels. Customers also have access to the BT video on demand service, allowing users to download films, TV shows, sports events, music programmes and more using their BT broadband connection.
The BT V-Box and Home Hub
BT Vision is delivered through your existing TV aerial, plus the BT v-box – a digital set top box similar to the Sky boxes you may already be familiar with. The V-box contains a hard disc (the same as those used in computers) which will allow you to store up to 80 hours of programming to watch at your own convenience. There's also an electronic programme guide to help you quickly decide what you want to see, and a "catch up TV" feature which will let you download programmes from the past seven days.

Programmes are downloaded to the BT V-Box using a BT broadband connection – if you're already a BT internet customer, you'll already have this installed, and if not, the engineer who installs BT Vision will be able to do it for you.
In order to use the service, you'll also need a Home Hub. Think of this as the way the various devices in your home – broadband internet, TV, phone lines etc – all communicate with each other. It’s an amazing piece of technology which combines a broadband router with wi-fi access point and support for BT video and cordless phones, as well as a new security system which will be launching soon. The Home Hub is supplied free of charge to BT Total Broadband customers, which you'll need to subscribe to in order to use BT Vision.
Costs
The good news is that if you're a BT Total Broadband customer, access to BT Vision is completely free. Your only costs will be a £30 connection charge, and a £60 installation fee. Your V-Box and the freeview channels it provides are free, although if you wish to download On Demand content, there's a small charge per download: for instance, films are priced between £1.99 and £2.99, TV programmes are either 79p or 99p and there's even a range of games such as Hangman, Patience and Solitaire which are available for around 30p per half-hour.
Installation
Installation of BT Vision is quick and simple, and will usually be completed in less than an hour, although some homes may take longer, depending on the location of your telephone points and TV. Once installation is complete, you're ready to begin exploring BT Vision – welcome to the future of entertainment!
